Conservative Society, College Democrats host bipartisan conversation

The Williams College Conservative Society and the Williams College Democrats of America (CDA) hosted a moderated conversation last Thursday in Griffin. Conservative Society founder Arjun Patel ’29 and treasurer Bennett Gorman ’29 joined CDA co-founders Charles Hughes ’28 and Eve Kaplan ’29 to answer questions on politics at the College and the state of the Democratic and Republican parties.

“I want to see more of you angry”: MinCo, activist groups host May Day walkout

Students, faculty, staff, and community members gathered last Friday on Paresky steps to demonstrate for workers’ rights. The rally organizers — the Minority Coalition (MinCo) along with several other student and local groups — hoped to increase student political engagement and commemorate May Day by showing solidarity with College staff and other workers, according to MinCo Steering Committee Co-Chair Sam Samuel ’26 and Communications Director Oluwatosin Ibidokun ’27.

Tunnel City debuts new menu

Tunnel City Coffee launched an expanded breakfast and lunch menu last Friday. Offered Friday through Monday, the menu includes an açai bowl, a breakfast burrito, a bagel and lox plate, and an enoki mushroom sandwich, among other items.

College sees steady increase in reported academic disabilities

The number of students receiving academic accommodations for disabilities has steadily increased at the College over the past year, echoing a national trend. During the 2024-25 academic year, 18 percent of students at the College received academic accommodations, which include extended time on tests and the option to work in a distraction-free environment, according to Director of Accessible Education Katy Evans.

CSS unveils unified emergency preparedness initiative

This spring, Campus Safety Services (CSS) will roll out its new Purple Shield initiative, Associate CSS Director and Director of Emergency Management Amalio Jusino wrote in an email to the campus community last Thursday. The program, which aims to standardize emergency preparedness on campus, relies on the national Standard Response Protocol created by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation.

New skate park ‘shovel ready’

Construction on a new Town skate park near Cole Field will begin later this year, replacing a park demolished on the site in 2025. Purple Valley Trails, a nonprofit formed in 2024 that is dedicated to increasing community engagement with the outdoors, is leading the project.

Ayelada shuts doors temporarily

Frozen yogurt shop Ayelada closed temporarily at the end of the fall semester due to staffing shortages. Ayelada co-owner Lisa Cervone told the Record that it will reopen as soon as possible, likely before spring break.

On-campus housing application deadline changes, timeline moved

The housing selection process for the 2026-27 academic year is following a delayed timeline compared to the last academic year. The co-op, double, and general room selection applications will now simultaneously open in late February and close in early March. According to Director of Housing Heather McCarthy, the housing process is delayed so that students can apply to their next year’s housing after they choose to apply for study away.
