Women’s golf — No. 2 in the NCAA Div. III East Region — won first place at the NESCAC Championship at the Taconic Golf Club last weekend, shooting a 303, +19, to beat Hamilton by 32 strokes. During the first day of the competition, Gio Kim ’25 made consecutive birdies on holes 17 and 18 and ended her match with a stellar 69, -2. Emma Abramson ’27 and Tianyi Zhuang ’24 followed in close pursuit with scores of 73, +2, as Zhuang scored birdies on holes 4 and 5. Victoria Kim ’26 and Euna Lee ’26 then finished strong with scores of 74, +3 and 78, +7, respectively.

Women’s golf secured a first place finish in the 15-team field at the Martin and Wallace Invitational hosted by SUNY Cortland last Sunday. Due to heavy rain, high winds, and the resultant flooding of the course, the first round of the invitational was canceled, reducing the tournament to a shortened 18-hole format from its original 36-hole format.
No. 3 men’s tennis (10-1, 4-0 NESCAC) swept No. 45 Connecticut College (8-5, 1-5 NESCAC) in a 9-0victory last Saturday. The win extends the Ephs’ four match win streak, moving them to second place in the NESCAC, one game behind perennial rival No. 21 Amherst (10-2, 5-0 NESCAC).
Women’s swim and dive (7-0, 4-0 NESCAC) took first place at the NESCAC Championship last weekend, which was hosted at the Middlebury College Natatorium. Following an undefeated season and a historic Div. III dual meet streak of 135 wins, the four-day championship meet was the icing on the cake for the team. The win marks the team’s 20th title in program history.

Ruth Russell began her term as Williamstown health inspector on Nov. 13, succeeding Jeff Kennedy, who retired in August after 23 years in the role. Russell’s appointment marks the end of a months-long vacancy and search process by the Town’s government.
Tony’s Sombrero was founded about 12 years ago by Antonio “Tony” Palestino, the original owner. According to his brother Hector Palestino, who now operates the restaurant, Tony Palestino quickly recognized the demand for a Mexican restaurant in town and founded Tony’s Sombrero on Spring Street soon after.

Students elected 11 candidates to the Williams Student Union (WSU) this semester, seven of which are returning representatives. Only the Class of 2027 had enough candidates for a contested election, and only two students from the Class of 2025 ran, leaving one of the governing body’s 12 spots unfilled.
The College held its annual Convocation for the Classes of 2024, 2023.5, and graduate students in their final year on Sept. 9 in Chapin Hall. During the ceremony, President of the College Maud S. At the start of the spring semester, students noticed something different about their professors’ syllabi and welcome-to-class announcements: Many included guidance on, prohibitions of, or encouragement to use ChatGPT — as long as it’s cited.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation

Vista, the College’s Latinx and Allies student organization, hosted a panel on Friday where six alums who participated in the 1993 hunger strike protesting the College’s lack of a Latino/a studies department spoke about their experiences and reflected on the changes the College has made and what can still be done.
