Whitmans’ Dining Hall and ’82 Grill were closed unexpectedly on Sunday and Monday. The cause was a minor natural gas leak, according to Vice President for Finance and Operations Mike Wagner. Lee Snack Bar, which does not open on Sundays, was also closed on Monday.
Campus Safety Services and Dining Services contacted Facilities after a gas alarm went off on Saturday evening. Facilities determined that a new piece of equipment needed to be installed to fix the gas leak, according to Wagner.
Though Whitmans’ did not serve food, Paresky remained open to the campus community throughout this period. “There has been no indication that any other use of Paresky is a danger to participants,” Wagner wrote in an email to the Record.
All three dining options resumed normal operations on Tuesday after the necessary part was installed Monday morning by Berkshire Gas.
Fresh-n-Go was able to remain operational on Monday. “Because Fresh-n-Go prepares only cold food, it does not use the equipment that is powered by natural gas,” Wagner wrote.
There was no connection between the closure and Saturday night’s annual senior fall formal.
