At the height of the Hungarian Revolution in November 1956, Steve Bullock ’57 pitched an idea to his Delta Upsilon (DU) fraternity brothers: to “adopt” a family of Hungarian refugees. Three months and a series of miracles later, a Hungarian family of four moved into the DU fraternity house in Williamstown.

Between the notification of their acceptance and the deposit deadline, the cohort of accepted students had the chance to experience the College through Williams Previews — an annual three-day event organized by the Office of Admission where admitted students meet current students, faculty, and staff either virtually or on campus.

By the end of this school year, Swanson and Behr will have traveled to a school in all 50 states. At each stop, they will give out free books through a partnership with the nonprofit First Book and document it on their Instagram, YouTube channel, and website.

Spouses of faculty struggle to find employment at the College

In a location as remote as Williamstown, spouses of College faculty members can face limited employment opportunities. For spouses who are also academics, getting two tenure-track positions at the College can be difficult, forcing couples to make challenging decisions about their careers.

On Saturday morning, 13 members of the College and Town communities planted 53 native plants — 25 trees and 28 shrubs — along the new bike path and the Hoosic River in order to restore the riparian habitat, which is the zone at the edge of a body of water.
