President Maud S. Mandel awarded the Bicentennial Medal to Bruce Grinnell ’62 during a Nov. 22 Zoom webinar for his role in abolishing fraternities at the College.
The Select Board reviewed proposed articles in the draft warrant that will be presented at the annual Town meeting on June 8. The board also heard updates on the searches for the permanent town manager and interim police chief.
On April 16 and 17, the College hosted Virtual Previews for the Class of 2025. Learning from online events hosted over the last year, the College expanded the length of its program to two days, compared to one day last year.
On April 14, President Maud S. Mandel conferred the Bicentennial Medal, awarded to alumni each year “for distinguished achievement in any field of endeavor,” to Dr. Craig Smith ’70, Chair of the Department of Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
Due to a recent loss of housing units at Cable Mills, the College has continued to pursue other options for new faculty housing. In a faculty meeting earlier this year, members of the administration mentioned potential changes to the faculty housing lottery, among other suggestions.
In lieu of the traditional two-week long spring break this semester, the College has created three Health Days in the hopes that the absence of classes will provide students space for rest and rejuvenation. As these dates approach, the Record spoke with faculty on how they are preparing for Health Days.
Maggie Haberman and Yamiche Alcindor participated in a College-organized webinar on March 3 titled “Forum on the Status of Women in Politics,” which was moderated by Michel Martin.
Activist Ericka Hart delivered the morning keynote on Claiming Williams Day on Thursday in a Zoom webinar titled “(Calling Out) Williams Day!” Hart called on the College to address past and present institutional racism against Black and Indigenous people.
