Monday 9-14-20
7:02 a.m. Paresky Center: Dining Services staff reported a minor motor vehicle accident at the Paresky loading dock. A driver for Performance Foodservice was backing into the loading dock when he struck the right (south) garage door frame. The vehicle was a freightliner refrigerated truck. There were no personal injuries. The Williamstown Police Department responded after being notified.
6:06 p.m. South Street: An officer responded to an off-campus faculty residence for a report of the smoke detector sounding. The apparent cause was cooking.
Tuesday 9-15-20
7:43 p.m. Towne Field House: An officer noticed a black rental van parked in one of the spaces along the east side of the Towne Field House with its headlights on. The vehicle was running with nobody inside, and nobody was in the area. The College transportation coordinator responded and turned both the lights and the vehicle off.
Wednesday 9-16-20
1:18 p.m. Parking Garage: An officer was dispatched to evaluate and take a report from a College employee who tripped on uneven concrete and fell. The employee refused medical assistance. The officer took pictures of the area and arranged for a sign to be placed at the top of the stairs. A work order will be submitted to have the sidewalk repaired for safety reasons.
4:17 p.m. Paresky Center: An officer responded to a report from staff that a non-Williams visitor was hanging around in the second-floor area of the Paresky Center. Officers spoke with an older gentleman and advised him that unfortunately the building was closed to the public and that all College buildings are currently only open to Williams students, faculty and staff as a precaution regarding COVID-19.
Thursday 9-17-20
1:41 p.m. Towne Field House: An officer responded to speak with staff concerning a possible stolen item.
9:38 p.m. Horn Hall: An officer responded to the patio area on the east side for a report of a large group of students wearing masks but not socially distancing.
Friday 9-18-20
7:07 a.m. Faculty Club: Officers responded to an intrusion alarm caused by a College staff member.
9:00 a.m. Danforth Block: Campus Safety and Security (CSS) received an email forwarded from a Facilities staff member concerning a theft that occurred on Thursday. The email indicated a package containing $600 worth of clothes was delivered by FedEx on Sept. 17 but did not arrive, prompting an investigation. After some time, the resident reported the package was found to have been delivered to the wrong address on Spring Street and had been returned to their possession.
Saturday 9-19-20
2:14 a.m. Jesup Hall: Officers responded to a fire trouble alarm. The indicated smoke detector was found and checked. The panel was cleared and restored back to normal. A work order was submitted for electrical trades.
2:40 a.m. Williams Hall: Dispatch received a call from a student asking CSS to conduct a wellbeing check on a friend. Everyone was found to be well.
6:27 a.m. Goodrich Hall: Officers responded to a fire alarm. The area in question was free of any smoke or fire. The fire detector was then replaced with a new unit and the system returned to normal.
8:29 p.m. Poker Flats: While on patrol, an officer observed a small gathering of students around the Poker Flats fire pit with a small campfire going in the ring. The officer double checked with dispatch to ensure no fires were scheduled. The officer then spoke with the students and informed them of the proper procedures to have a fire and the safety concerns involved with having one at this present time. No permits are being allowed during the COVID-19 crisis.
11:36 p.m. Agard House: An officer was dispatched for a door management activation alarm. Upon arrival, the officer observed 10-15 students unmasked on the front porch. As soon as they noticed CSS pulling into the parking lot, they all dispersed.
Sunday 9-20-20
12:14 a.m. Williams Bookstore: An officer responded to the third floor for reports of the balcony door being ajar. The officer found the door propped open by a doorstop, closed the door and checked the building.
2:29 p.m. Tyler Drive: A dining services employee called to report a motor vehicle accident that involved another dining employee. A white utility cart had suffered major damage and the operator had unknown injuries. Medical assistance was offered and refused, but a family member was subsequently going to transport the injured person to the emergency room.
2:44 p.m. Schow Library: A staff member reported a leak in the area of the compact shelving Room. The carpet was saturated with water, but there was no visible leak. An officer went up into the video game lab and could hear water leaking behind a door. There was a hose on the sprinkler system leaking and around two inches of water on the floor. On-call mechanical trades was called, and the officer was able to shut the water off. The on-call custodian was on campus and also responded for water clean-up.
