Wednesday 5-13-20
11:00 a.m. Campus Safety and Security (CSS) Office: An officer was called into Hopkins Hall to take a statement and start an investigation into a possible stolen painting. The call was from a professor regarding a painting that was missing from a faculty art studio.
7:34 p.m. Cole Field: A caller reported that while walking their dog, an unleashed German Shepherd attacked their dog. An officer met with the caller near the baseball field. They explained that the unleashed dog jumped on their dog, and that the caller had to physically remove the German Shepherd from their dog. The other owner reportedly did not listen when they were told the dog needed to be on a leash. The officer met up with the other owner on the opposite side of the baseball field and found the German Shepherd now leashed. He was informed that dogs always need to be leashed while on college property.
8:39 p.m. Armstrong: An officer was dispatched to the Office of Information Technology (OIT) door for a door ajar alarm. OIT staff were found on-site working. No further action was taken.
Thursday 5-14-20
9:29 a.m. Children’s Center: While doing a check of the Children’s Center and the Annex, an officer found the alarm system unarmed. No one was in the Children’s Center. A check by dispatch revealed a pest control contractor had been let in by a Facilities staff member but left without telling anyone they had finished. The officer rearmed the system.
11:59 a.m. CSS Office: Dispatch received a call from an administrative staff member reporting text messages asking them to purchase two hundred-dollar eBay gift cards ASAP. The message asked them to pay for the cards and claimed that they would be reimbursed. The message directed the staff member to remove the cards from the packaging, scratch off the silver panel on the back of each card to expose the claim code, take a picture of both the codes and send a picture of them. The message came from an unknown number but claimed to be another College administrator and threatened their job if these instructions were not followed. As they suspected, this is a commonly used scam. The messages were forwarded to CSS to have the scam report on record.
Friday 5-15-20
12:22 a.m. South Science: An officer responded to a forced-door alarm for the main entrance. The officer found the door to be secure and saw no one in the area.
3:32 a.m. Sawyer Library: Officers responded to a motion alarm coming from thefourth floor East Stacks. Upon arrival, they found the library clear and no apparent cause for the alarm. They rearmed the system.
1:12 p.m. Center for Development in Economics Residence Hall: An officer responded to a door ajar alarm and found the main entrance door open but no one around. The area was checked and the door was secured.
2:39 p.m. Horn Hall: An officer responded to the card access system reporting an unknown user trying to swipe into multiple rooms. The officer found all of these rooms to be unoccupied and secure and did a walk through. They did not find anything suspicious.
3:20 p.m. Schapiro Hall: An officer noticed a man and woman walking with a German Shepherd in front of Schapiro Hall. The dog was off-leash. The officer politely explained that all dogs must be leashed and asked for their names. They became agitated and uncooperative.
4:23 p.m. Tyler Annex: An electrical tradesman reported that they were on site at to repair a light pole that appeared to be hit and damaged by a yellow vehicle. The damage was documented.
4:58 p.m. Cole Field: While on a routine check of the area, an officer spoke with two women who had their dogs unleashed. They were identified and advised of the College’s leash rule. This officer has spoken to one of them several times before concerning this rule. She has also lost her dog because it has been unleashed. Both put their dogs on leashes when spoken to. The women were cooperative.
10:25 p.m. Stetson Hall: An officer was dispatched due to numerous swipes and forced doors on the fifth and sixth floor. The dispatcher identified the name displayed. The officer found the door to office 610 ajar with a light on. The officer found a student sitting at the desk in a chair. The student was immediately apologetic and appropriately concerned that he was found in a professor’s private office. The student explained that he was two hours into acid he had taken and was coming down from his trip. The officer called 911.
Saturday 5-16-20
12:54 a.m. Hollander Hall: Officers responded to a report of potential roof damage from the storm. A student reported to dispatch that while walking on the east side of Hollander Hall they observed some debris of bronze and wood embedded in the pavement. Upon arrival, officers observed pieces of wood and copper that had fallen off the roof. They then checked the interior of Hollander hall for water damage. The on-call architectural tradesperson was contacted to pick up the damage and check the roof of Hollander Hall. Officers set up cones around the debris until the material was removed.
8:31 a.m. Dennison Circle: While patrolling campus, an officer noticed a large tree branch that was in the area closest to the cemetery. They placed caution tape and cones around it. A work order was submitted to have the branch removed.
9:02 a.m. South Street: An officer was performing a check of “The Fort” and noticed a tree limb had fallen on part of the construction fencing, and that part of the limb was resting on the sidewalk. An officer spoke with the project manager who was at the site and they said the contractor would have the tree limb removed shortly. The officer placed caution tape and cones around the tree.
9:13 a.m. Morley Circle: An officer reported a small tree had fallen in the grass in between Morley Circle and the South Science Parking Lot. They placed caution tape and cones around the tree. A work order was submitted to have it removed.
6:36 p.m. Children’s Center: Officers responded to the annex for an intrusion alarm. The north motion detector had been activated. All exterior doors were found secured. Officers checked the interior of the Annex and found nothing out of the ordinary. Hanging from the ceiling in front of the north motion detector was a mobile located next to an air handler vent. This vent blowing air may have caused the motion alarm. The alarm system was reset.
9:10 p.m. Mission Dining Hall: While completing a routine security check, an officer entered the kitchen and heard an alarm sounding. The walk-in cooler alarm had been triggered and the cooler was found empty. Dispatch made a call to the Mission Dining Unit Manager, who said they were aware and that the cooler was scheduled for repair.
10:01 p.m. Williams Inn: While on routine security check, an officer observed a lit outdoor gas fireplace outside the building. There were four people sitting in their own outdoor chairs. The officer approached the group and explained that the Inn was closed and that they had to leave. They were all very cooperative and left the area.
