Julian Sachs ’89 hopes to offer potential solutions for the future of carbon capture. In 2022, Sachs patented a technology called Banyu Carbon that uses sunlight and seawater to produce a chemical reaction that releases carbon dioxide.
Most current students at the College know “The Mountains” as the song that is played on the campus bells to announce the glorious start of Mountain Day. But beyond its annual appearance on campus, the tune has a long and treasured history, and has served as an important source of connection for many alums over the years.
An unsatisfactory orientation experience as a first-year student that led Laschever to imagine a different start for first-years at the College. In his senior year, he helped establish Williams Outdoor Orientation For Living as First-years (WOOLF), which is now a four-day wilderness adventure orientation program, alongside a group of students two years below him.
As a result of conversations with Queer Student Union last year, the College has changed the designation of some bathrooms on campus from gendered to gender-neutral.
