I’m a senior political science major and member of the Political Science Liaison Committee, a group of students responsible for communicating student input to the department, helping with job searches, and organizing events for the department. In Professor of Biology Luana Maroja’s April 15 Record op-ed, she argues, “If we are comfortable with women dominating biology and psychology, we must be equally comfortable with men dominating economics and political science.” However, political science is not economics: Women make up a slight majority of political science majors. In the Class of 2026, there are 27 female and 24 male majors; in the Class of 2027, there are 31 women and 27 men. For any women considering the major: You’ll have plenty of company in the Griffin classroom.
