During spring 2020, despite widespread calls for support from term-limited faculty members, the College declined to offer a blanket extension of all term-limited faculty members’ contracts, citing financial uncertainty. Instead, it provided term-limited faculty members the option to take an unpaid research associate position to aid in the job search. While some term-limited professors were ultimately offered extensions on a case-by-case basis, others were left to face a beleaguered job market.
The Town Planning Board unanimously passed a bylaw at March 9 monthly meeting that would allow residents of Williamstown to cultivate cannabis. The motion has been passed on to the Town Select Board, which will review the motion at its March 22 meeting.
On March 4, former President of the College Morton “Morty” Schapiro issued a statement to the Northwestern community announcing his intent to retire from the university on Aug. 31, 2022, once his contract expires. Schapiro has served as President of Northwestern University for 13 years, since he left Williams in 2009.
