College removes TAPSI website out of ‘abundance of caution’

A page on the College’s website that outlined the Theme/Affinity/Program/Special Interest (TAPSI) housing program was taken down during the week of Feb. 14. Dean of the College Gretchen Long said that the College is not planning any changes to the program, but that senior staff decided to take down the page following the Department of Education’s Feb. 14 Dear Colleague letter.

Professor of Chemistry Thomas Smith ’88 appointed WEPO director

Professor and Chair of Chemistry Thomas Smith ’88 will serve as the next director of the Williams-Exeter Programme at Oxford (WEPO), President Maud S. Mandel announced in an all-campus email last Friday. He will succeed Professor of Political Science Sam Crane, who has held the position since July 2024.

David Baron ’25 and Asa Quasney Wardat ’25 have won the Gates Cambridge Scholarship, which fully funds postgraduate studies at the University of Cambridge. They are two of the 25 Gates Cambridge scholars from the United States this year.

International Student Services (ISS) hosted its ninth annual “Know Your Rights” workshop on March 5, in partnership with the Berkshire Immigrant Center (BIC). During the workshop, BIC staff spoke with students and community members about immigrants’ rights. This year’s workshop was held amid an increasingly adverse environment for immigrants following President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

Select Board advances proposals on short-term rentals, geothermal wells

Two warrant articles drafted by the Planning Board will be voted on at Town Meeting on May 22, after the Williamstown Select Board voted to add them to the Town Meeting warrant on Monday. One measure aims to regulate short-term rentals in the Town, while the other would regulate the installation of geothermal heating wells.
