Monday 5-3-21  

9:20 a.m. Brooks Parking Lot: Officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving two student vehicles but with no injuries. The Williamstown Police Department (WPD) also responded, and officers verified information, took pictures, and began a motor vehicle accident report.

9:35 a.m. Lawrence Hall: A College box truck reported backing into a parked car. The car owner was contacted and responded to the site. The WPD arrived, took information, and began a motor vehicle accident report.

7:40 p.m. Hubbell House: An officer responded to several door management activation alarms on the first floor. The officer found a student enjoying the nice weather and doing homework on the porch; no further action was taken.

Tuesday 5-4-21

10:26 a.m. Spencer Studio Art Building: Dispatch received a call that someone was stuck in the elevator. An officer responded and spoke with the individual, who was able to exit the elevator, and notified Electrical Trades to post temporary “out of order” signs on the elevator.

12:57 p.m. Chaffee Tennis House: An officer responded to a burglar alarm and found a contractor on site who was aware that the restroom was armed.

Wednesday 5-5-21

8:10 a.m. Thompson Chapel: Facilities staff members pulled the alarm for concerns of a strong odor of gas. The Campus Safety & Environmental Compliance staff arrived on the scene. Berkshire Gas and the Williamstown Fire Department (WFD) arrived, confirmed there was no gas concern, and checked the tunnels underneath that connect the chapel and Hopkins Hall.

12:56 p.m. The ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance: An officer responded to an odor of possible gas. After evacuating the building, the officer asked that the WFD be called. Mechanical Trades, a safety assistant from Environmental Safety & Compliance, and Berkshire Gas also responded to the scene and identified the possible source.

8:20 p.m. Morley Science Laboratories Animal Wing: An officer responded to a forced door alarm and identified the problem with a staff member on site. Dispatch submitted a work order for Facilities to check the door and air exchange in the Animal Facility.

Thursday 5-6-21

8:35 a.m. Dodd House: An officer responded to a report of an elderly man walking his dog and looking in the windows of the building. The person was identified and apologized for walking his dog too close to the building.

8:53 a.m. Paresky Center: Officers responded to a report of vandalism found in the form of an offensive graphic carved into the wood railing on the south side of the stairs leading to Baxter Hall. A work order was submitted to have it removed and an Architectural Trades carpenter responded.

4:51 p.m. Faculty Club: Officers responded to a burglar alarm that detected motion in the living and dining rooms but found no one present. The officers identified the possible cause of the motion sensor activations.

6:25 p.m. Cole Field: An officer responded to a report of an injured student. Upon arrival, the officer asked that Northern Berkshire Transport be called for a transport to Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) North.

10:22 p.m. Facilities Stockroom: Dispatch received an alarm panel activation. An officer found an employee leaving who took responsibility for the alarm.

Friday 5-7-21

2:36 p.m.: A concerned professor requested a welfare check on a student. An officer went to the student’s room and asked the student to make contact with their professor.

8:28 p.m. Mark Hopkins House: Officers responded to a noise complaint in the C entry.

Saturday  5-8-21

5:49 p.m. Sabin Drive: Officers responded to a report of a gathering outside of a house used for COVID-19 isolation.

7:49 p.m. Weston Field: At a men’s lacrosse game, athletic administrative staff on site spoke to a group of Tufts parents who were drinking and being belligerent on Meacham Street, but the parents were uncooperative and disrespectful. The staff called the WPD, who arrived and spoke to the group, and the behavior stopped.

11:18 p.m. Ruland House: Officers responded to a fire alarm that was possibly caused by steam from a shower.

 11:33 p.m. Gladden House: An officer responded to the fifth-floor common room for a report of the room being destroyed by students not part of the College community. They found only one College student on site and saw no damage aside from one broken bottle, which the students cleaned up.

11:50 p.m. Gladden House: While responding to the previous call at Gladden, the officer heard loud music from the parking garage and saw a group of students on the second deck. The officer found 22 students in the garage, with most wearing masks and in compliance with the College’s COVID guidelines, but advised them to turn off the music.

Sunday 5-9-21

12:47 a.m. Mark Hopkins House: Dispatch received a call from a student reporting that there was loud music and yelling.

1:01 a.m. Tyler House and Tyler Annex: Officers responded to a noise complaint from a Town resident living near the area. They found the area quiet except for some music, of which the officers could not identify the source. After returning to the Tyler Drive, Park Street, and Syndicate Road area, the officers identified the music as coming from the upper level of Poker Flats. There were five students on site; officers asked them to turn the music off.

1:32 p.m. Faculty Club: Officers responded to an intrusion alarm and found the building locked with no one inside. The building was rearmed.

4:09 p.m. Mount Hope Mansion: Officers responded to an intrusion alarm and found all doors and windows secure. The system was rearmed. 

6:17 p.m. Williams College Museum of Art: Officers responded to an intrusion alarm and found everything to be normal. The system was reset and rearmed.

Monday 5-10-21

12:30 p.m. Paresky Center: An officer responded to the mailroom to pick up a suspicious package, which was emitting a cannabis-like odor. The officer brought the package to the Campus Safety and Security (CSS) office and placed it in the evidence vault, pending further investigation.

Tuesday 5-11-21

1:42 p.m.: Dispatch received a report of a student who fell off their bike. An officer found the student sitting on the grass at the corner of Morley Drive and Walden Street, being assisted by a College groundskeeper. The student was transported to the Health Center and the groundskeeper secured the bike to the bike rack at the Hopper Science Center.

4:56 p.m. Faculty Club: Officers responded to a burglar alarm, which had detected motion in the living room and dining room. No apparent cause was found, and the officer rearmed the system.

9:25 p.m. Hopkins Observatory: Officers responded to a burglar alarm caused by College staff.

9:37 p.m. Hubbell House: An officer conducted a welfare check on a student, who was asked to call the requesting parent.

Wednesday 5-12-21

6:50 a.m. Chaffee Tennis House: Officers responded to a burglar alarm set off by a contractor.

8:05 a.m. Thompson Physics Labs: An officer responded to a fire alarm with an electrical trades technician. The alarm had been caused by a compressor issue in Room 309.

9:41 a.m. South Street: A professor reported that someone had written an offensive message on the sidewalk across the street from Miller House on South Street. The WPD was also called, who advised dispatch that the police were already aware of the writing and that they have an active investigation on the matter.

2:17 p.m. Hopkins Hall: Officers responded to a stolen bike report.

Saturday 5-15-21

7:29 p.m. Cole Field: An officer responded to a report of children playing on the softball field and found around 10 students on the baseball team doing a home-run derby on the field. They all exited the field as the officer approached.

10:10 p.m. Poker Flats: An officer responded to a noise complaint and found around 15 students yelling and playing a game. The students were advised of the complaint and apologized.

10:28 p.m. Carter House: Officers responded to a report of a student calling for help.

10:30 p.m. Carter House: Dispatch received a call from another student reporting that they had heard someone crying for help. The student believed the cries came from the quad or the floor below them. The caller said they had investigated a bit on their own and could not find the source. Officers swept the building and area and spoke to several students.

Sunday 5-16-21

4:30 p.m. Hopper Science Center: Dispatch received a call from a student studying in a lab room reporting an audible alarm coming from the next room. Officers found a large incubator with the audible alarm activated and contacted the lab contact person to advise them of the alarm. 

11:23 p.m. Frosh Quad: Officers responded to perform a wellness check on a student for the student’s parents. The student said they would call home immediately.

Monday 5-17-21

12:47 a.m. President’s House: Dispatch received an alarm.
