“Hallow’s eve — the one night a year it’s socially acceptable to play dress up. The question is, who do you want to be?” As Gossip Girl puts it, Halloween is a time when we can exchange our basic sweats for just about anything we’d like. Students at the College took advantage of this opportunity in a variety of ways this Halloweekend, dressing in costumes ranging from teenage mutant ninja turtles to a bottle of Fireball. The Record spoke with those wearing some of our favorite costumes on Hoxsey Street this year.
Most unexpected duo: Hannah Pressman ’28 and Jackson Hipp ’28
What if Belle ended up with Gaston? This Halloween, Pressman and Hipp brought this Beauty and the Beast plot twist to life. The pair’s choice to enamor Belle with the arrogant Gaston rather than the Beast begs the question: Do nice guys really finish last?
Pressman donned an elegant yellow corset as well as a rose pendant around her neck, reminiscent of the flower from the original film. These film-accurate details were counterbalanced by the unconventional pairing of princess and villain.
Most musical: Ben Elbaz ’28 and Sebastian Quadrini ’28
Futuristic businessmen? Robots? Nope, Daft Punk. Elbaz and Quadrini took Hoxsey by storm, dressed as the French house music duo. Armed with a JBL speaker blasting “Around the World” and a pair of sharp, black suits, these two seemed invincible. Although missing Daft Punk’s signature sequins, the duo’s killer moves on the dance floor this past weekend certainly did shine.
Most relationship: Francesca Hernandez and Vincent Hernandez ’28
Dressed as a firefighter and a dalmatian, Francesca and Vincent were the epitome of “couple goals.” From the spotted tail to her dalmatian-inspired spotted cheeks and red nails, Francesca demonstrated her attention to detail in effectively transforming herself into a dog this Halloween. Vincent made a controversial fashion choice in pairing navy blue and black, but we think the risk was worth it.
Emily Singer ’28: Most literary
This weekend, Singer dressed up as Rodrick from the literary classic Diary of a Wimpy Kid, everyone’s secret childhood crush. Singer added her own personal touches to the character’s grunge look, pairing an off-the-shoulder band t-shirt with fishnet tights and a red lip.
May Blair ’25 and Carolyn Jones ’25: Most dad
For anyone feeling homesick this fall, this duo’s costumes have you covered. The pair flaunted silky ’staches and proud aprons all the way down Hoxsey. Maybe they remind you of your own dad or of the one always barbecuing next door. Take a moment to appreciate Blair’s finishing touch of the Apple watch — you’ll never catch a real grill dad without one.
