On Sunday, women’s lacrosse took a 17-5 win over Skidmore College. 

Kara Wollmers ’20 and Shea van den Broek ’23 scored the first three goals and opened the game with a 3-0 lead within the first seven minutes. 

With 10 minutes left in the first half, Claire Fitzpatrick ’21 netted three goals and Olivia Gomez ’21 and van den Broek each scored two. Isabel Arvelo ’23, Gomez and Lily Warendorf ’23 assisted on goals in the Ephs’ run of success. Van den Broek and Gomez’s goals were just 20 seconds apart at 00:21 and 00:01 and established the 12-3 lead by the end of the first half. 

In the second half, Mason Yonge ’22, Warendorf and Sophia Millay ’21 each scored a goal. Wollmers then added two more to close out the scoring for the Ephs. Together, the women tallied the first five goals and pushed their lead to 17-3 with just under 20 minutes left to play. 

The Ephs won 17 out of 25 draw controls, allowing them to control the ball for most of the game. Fitzpatrick won five draw controls and Arvelo won four others. 

Fitzpatrick and Wollmers led the Eph attack, scoring three goals apiece. Gomez contributed two goals and a team-high three assists. Kami Cisneros ’20 made five saves, and Caitlyn Joyce ’23 and Gates Tenerowicz ’23 each had one save in limited time. 

Head coach Alice Lee was proud of the way all of her players focused on the team instead of playing for themselves. She praised the defense for successfully working the ball up the field and the offense for working together to score 17 goals. The team, she said, “loves each other and plays for each other, which can make all the difference.”  

The Ephs will next travel to Waterville, Maine, this Saturday to face Colby College in a NESCAC contest.
