Davis Center complex to reopen in February following two-year renovation

The Davis Center is set to reopen next month, following nearly two years of expansion. The $27.5 million project included renovations to Jenness House and Rice House, as well as the construction of an additional, yet-to-be-named building to replace Hardy House and a bridge to connect the new building to Rice.

New tea and boba café to open as Spring Street businesses shuffle

Following the long-awaited opening of Crust pizzeria, Spring Street will see a shuffle of its businesses. A new café, Tea and Boba Lounge, will open at 76 Spring St. on Feb. 2. The A Better Community Clothing Sale (ABC), the previous occupant of the space, moved to 30 Spring St.

Charter Review Committee proposes recall provision, other amendments

The Charter Review Committee (CRC) presented its proposed amendments to the Town Charter to the Select Board on Jan. 22. The Select Board is now drafting warrant articles based on the proposals, which voters can approve at the Town Meeting on May 21.

Fitch House will be unavailable in the upcoming general housing lottery because it has been set aside for use as overflow first-year housing in the 2024-2025 academic year. Thompson Hall, which was closed for renovations last spring and this fall, and Hubbell House, which is set to close due to structural issues, will return to use as upperclass residence halls.

College says graffiti on Israeli hostage posters called for violence, breached ‘both College values and Williams policies’

On Dec. 13, the College became aware that posters in Paresky Center had been defaced with graffiti that "supported violence against Israelis," violating College values and policies. College staff took the posters down. The posters had originally been put up by Noah Cape '25 and Matt Seltzer '24 to raise awareness about Israelis held hostage by Hamas.

College admits 249 out of record-breaking 1,068 applicants to Class of 2028 through early decision

Fall approval ratings survey shows decreased approval of the Record, the College, Mandel

Last week, the Record sent its biannual approval ratings survey to 500 randomly selected students, who indicated their approval, disapproval, or neutrality toward various campus institutions and policies.
Part of the issue, the committee’s co-chair explained, is that AI tools like ChatGPT can be employed for many different parts of the writing process, and unspecific policies on syllabi makes it difficult to determine if a student has violated any rules. (Max Billick/The Williams Record)
