Letter to the editor: on David Kane’s commitment to the College

To the Editor,

As students and alumni of the College, we have different opinions about the views expressed in David Kane’s ’88 op-ed on what it means for Williams to be “the best college in the world” (“What does it mean to be the best?: An alum considers the relative importance of admission criteria” (Sept. 20). But, as some of the dozens of Williams students that David has hired as interns over the last decade, we all agree that there is no alum more committed to helping students. David has taught Winter Study three times and also co-authored four peer-reviewed articles with current and past students. How many other alumni have demonstrated such a commitment to the College?

  • What a wonderful tribute to a terrific, brave, outspoken person. Bravo!

“How many other alumni have demonstrated such a commitment to the College?”

Literally hundreds, perhaps thousands over the College’s history, who’ve also managed to do so without dragging current students on their Williams-themed racist hobby blog.
