CC votes to pay for one page of ads in the ‘Record,’ with One in 2000 stipulation

At the College Council (CC) meeting yesterday, CC representatives voted in favor of a resolution to allocate $332 of Student Activities Tax money to the Record for each of the 10 issues of the fall semester. $322 is the price of a full-page, black-and-white advertisement in the Record, after a 20 percent discount for campus advertisers, and a 10 percent frequent user discount.

UPDATE: Faculty approve graded Winter Study course, Claiming Williams Day

At the faculty meeting Wednesday, Williams College faculty voted to pass two motions: first, for three-year trial of a regularly graded Winter Study course that would both count at Winter Study credit and make up one academic deficiency; and second, to regularize Claiming Williams Day in the College calendar. Both motions passed by voice vote.

Tonight, at CC’s final meeting of the semester, CC representatives will vote on whether or not to supplement the Record’s weekly income next semester. CC will first decide whether or not it wants to channel Student Activities Tax money to the Record at all.

In support of the faculty meeting motions

The faculty will vote today on two proposals that could alter the winter months at Williams in two different ways. We urge the faculty to approve both motions – to vote “yes” to the implementation of a regularly graded Winter Study course and also to the institutionalization of Claiming Williams.

“I like to eat.” At home this would be a ridiculous statement. Of course, I do! Saying “I like to eat” would be like saying “I like to breathe,” or “I like to sleep” or “I like to engage in other activities that support my basic living needs.” At Williams College, though, “I like to eat” isn’t as self-evident.

Falk, Merrill review the College at transitional juncture

On Monday, President Adam Falk and Dean Karen Merrill spoke with Yue-Yi Hwa, editor-in-chief, about budgets, Claiming Williams and residential life in a transitional year. Falk has been President of the College since April 1. On July 1, Merrill will be succeeded in the deanship by Sarah Bolton, professor of physics and department chair.
