In response to a letter published on Feb. 13 criticizing the College’s salting and snow removal policies, I would like to provide the following clarification:
Snow is dealt with as needed during working hours and we schedule staff for known weather conditions that occur after hours. Facilities often works around the clock clearing snow and ice from campus – in our last storm the grounds-men worked 16 hours straight. All after hours snow removal and/or icy conditions are handled by on-call Facilities personnel in the same manner that all repair and emergency issues are handled. If there are isolated areas that need attention because of unsafe conditions after hours we ask that students, faculty or staff notify Campus Safety and Security and they will call in the appropriate Facilities staff. Security is not expected to deal with ice or snow conditions on campus.
