More commentary on windmills, energy

I was introduced to the online version of the Record by staff member Ariel Peters (whose recent article on the Amherst-Williams rivalry was excellent) and could not help but pick up on a continuing debate regarding wind power purchases for your school.

It should be noted that the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU) is one of the nation’s largest purchasers of wind power, and the largest in Colorado.  Boulder is home to a culture of fervent environmentalism and activism, and something that both conservatives and liberals here agree on is clean energy.

Wind power’s environmental impacts were investigated when the CU Student Union originally decided to purchase, and it is clear that the benefits outweigh the costs. Birds die everywhere. Perhaps Williams can take CU’s model as an example; the students, through our student fee, foot the bill for wind power’s extra cost. Don’t count on your administration to do the work or cover the cost.

Keep up the good work on your fine publication.
