I am writing to applaud the efforts of the students, faculty and administrators who have brought the Sunday New York Times into our common spaces. At least in Parsons house, the paper is being read enthusiastically: students even gather in the common room to discuss what they’ve been reading.
Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t think this campus is horrendously apathetic (Tuesday’s demonstrations in response to the Diallo verdict will no doubt support this claim). Rather, I suspect that most of us simply aren’t aware of the events transpiring outside of the Purple Valley. By providing increased access to news and information, we’re combating both the illusion of apathy and the reality of ignorance.
Sincere thanks to all those who worked together to bring us The New York Times.
