Jody Kocsis

Occupation: Snack Bar employee

Residence: Williamstown

How long have you been working at the Snack Bar?

This is my first [school] year.

Were you living in Williamstown before?

Yeah – born and raised.

Where did you go to high school?

Mount Greylock.

Do you ever recognize teachers from Greylock?

Yeah, I have seen a couple of them here. I actually know a couple of people who go here, that I knew at Greylock.

What’s your favorite Snack Bar meal?

My favorite Snack Bar meal would have to be the bacon cheeseburger.

Are you a big meat eater?

Yeah.

What do you wish the Snack Bar would serve?

I think it’s got a pretty good selection right now. I don’t think it’s lacking much.

How much coffee do you drink a day?

A lot.

Do you have to pay for it?

Well, of course – until I come here.

How much coffee do you think students steal from the Snack Bar?

I would have to say quite a bit.

More than they pay for?

Well, coffee’s fairly cheap, I believe. But compared to how much they pay…I would have to say they steal about as much as they pay for. It’s about even.

So are there free refills on coffee?

Well, there aren’t supposed to be.

What about soda?

Nope, not supposed to be. But we can’t really tell; with all the kids who come through, we can’t really watch every one of them.

Do you ever recognize the students that come in, or know any of them by name?

Well, some of them. I’m fairly new. I’m just getting to know some of them.

What’s the weirdest thing that has ever happened in the Snack Bar?

One guy came in last week and spilled milk all over the computers, and came in just tonight and spilled the dish over with all the change in it. I thought that was the strangest thing. He didn’t seem like a clumsy person, but…

Was he really embarrassed?

The first time he was, but I think he’s getting used to it.

Do you ever see people you recognize from the Snack Bar at the Pub or Canterbury’s?

Every once in a while.

Do they say hi to you, and recognize you?

Well, sometimes.

What were you for Halloween?

I was a fireman.

At the Snack Bar?

No, I didn’t work that night.

Did you go out and get candy?

Yeah, with my daughter; she’ll be four in December.

Do you like the Snack Bar outfits, or do you want to change them?

Well, the hats have got to go – or we should get better hats.

If there was one thing you could change about the Snack Bar, what would it be?

I don’t think there’s anything I’ve noticed quite yet. It seems to be going pretty smoothly; they have a good system going.

What about the selection of candy – how is that determined?

There’s a great selection of candy! They just have all sorts of candy under the counter, and whoever is restocking the basket can just put it what they want.

So can students ask for candy if it’s not in the basket?

Oh, yeah. Today I asked someone who was kind of digging through it – and he looked a little confused. I asked him if there was anything he wanted, that there was more under the counter, but he said no.

What’s your favorite restaurant?

Hobson’s Choice. I’ve been going to Hobson’s for a long time – I used to work there. I just really like the place; it has a good atmosphere.

Do students usually say thank you?

Generally, everyone is nice. But there are a few who [think they]are better than us.

What do you think of Williams students in general?

Well, when I was growing up, I couldn’t stand them! But now that I’m older than them all, it’s not really that bad: they’re all right.

Is there anything else you want to say to the community?

I guess, “Be nice to the Snack Bar workers.”
